Mr. Steve Seeley, President of AFDS, has more than three decades of extensive experience in the door business and has been actively involved in the industry improving door design, hardware applications and the corrective measures in reducing risks associated with improper fire rated assemblies installations and maintenance.
Mr. Seeley is well versed in every facet of fire rated assemblies, NFPA 80 code compliance and fire risk reductions associated with operational fire rated assemblies. His extensive history began early working for his family's door and millwork company, Seeley Bros. With many commercial and public sector construction projects over the years, Seeley Bros. rose to the top as one of Southern California's largest and most respected door and millwork operations.
After serving in the United States Air Force, Mr. Seeley returned to the family business. He ultimately obtained his contractor's license and started Seeley Construction, which specialized in the assessment and repair of fire rated assemblies.
Having surveyed and repaired thousands of fire rated assemblies through Seeley Construction, Mr. Seeley recognized the need to reduce building owner’s risk and exposure to liability associated with non-compliant fire rated assemblies.
Working in conjunction with Jim Turner, a software developer and owner of Soft Dimensions, Mr. Seeley combined his boundless knowledge of fire rated assemblies and NFPA 80 with Mr. Turner's developmental skills to create a cutting-edge software program that supports the annual inspection and documentation of fire rated assemblies compliancy.
In 2007, Annual Fire Rated Assemblies Surveyors was launched under Steve Seeley's leadership, bringing synergy to a compliancy inspection process that was otherwise challenging to document accurately. Utilizing state-of-the-art technology AFDS significantly expedites the process for greater efficiency at a lower cost to clients.
Mr. Seeley's contributions to the door industry, specifically those in the field of Fire Rated Assemblies Inspections, are quite notable. He is one of a small group of individuals within the United States who are “Certified Fire Rated Assemblies Inspectors.” His vast knowledge of the door industry has shaped the curriculum for the International Fire Rated Assemblies Inspector Association (IFDIA)- the only accredited curriculum sanctioned by the International Accreditation Service (IAS) in the U.S. The parent company is the International Code Council (ICC).
AFDS is a member of the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) and is actively involved in keeping current on all important fire rated assemblies issues affecting code compliance and building owners.
